The Moon's Eclipse(closed)

Eric nodded back and motioned for the boy to follow him out of the water. No need to freeze the boy to death this time. He stomped his feet against the ground a few times to test the hardness of the ground before he gave a nod to himself and turned back to look at his apprentice. "First," he began, dropping onto his knees for a moment. "I'm going to show you how to start the famous Assassin's roll. Then, gradually, we'll work on getting you used to performing it from a fall. Watch carefully and then it'll be your turn." Eric took a breath and fell forward. He made certain that his head was carefully tilted slightly to the side and planted his forearms against the ground before his body tumbled forward in a roll and he was back into a kneeling position. Then he rose to his feet and nodded at Kyle. It was his turn and it looked like Eric would tell the boy to do it many times over until he had it down perfectly.

Kyle looked at Eric while he was doing the roll. He did recall doing something like that long ago... but it was in his school karate class. The boy placed himself the same way Eric had started, before he placed one of his hands near his foot and the other one almost on tope of the first one, before he rolled and came back in karate posture. He said no word before she facepalmed, his cheeks going a little red.

"Wait! It wasn't... supposed to be the karate roll..."



(it actually was my first personal mistake when I started parkour ! Karate rolls are totally inefficient from heights compared to Assassin rolls, and they look weirder too!)

Eric had placed a hand on his face in a quiet facepalm, almost like he was embarrassed himself. It was right then that he was glad there were no others to witness his apprentice's mistake. "Try it again," he demanded with a sigh. "We'll remain out here until you get it right. And then we'll move on to something else."

"Yes!"

Kyle took a deep breath, giving himself the needed determination to go own and try again, and again. After two or three, he already was way better. He did always have mistakes, but after five or six, the mistakes were practically gone. The only thing was that Kyle apparently needed a second or two to think about how to place his body. In a stressing situation he probably would hurt himself, but way less than if he had done a karate roll again, or if he simply had no idea how to roll.

"When you come up out of the roll, try landing in a perfect kneel. It will give you a chance to rise quickly and run if you need to." Eric demonstrated again, coming up into a perfect kneel from which he quickly rose up from. He nodded for Kyle to try again.

Which the boy quickly did. He rolled up, tried to end up kneeling and hit his knee a bit violently, making him shiver. Still, he pretended not having hurt himself and tried again a few times until it was a bit better. His rolls ended up being silent, just as they had to be.

"Better." Eric commented with a nod. From here, he looked like a military trainer and the look in his eye suggested as much. "Keep practicing. I want you to practice this until either you get it perfect or the sun goes down or you get dizzy and we're forced to go home for the day." Yep. He definitely sounded like a military trainer.

I won't get dizzy! Kyle thought, shaking his head a little, not even enough for Eric to see it. I'll get that roll. The kid had the weird feeling he would have yelled Sir, yes sir! and he still would have been in themed with what was going on at this instant.

Eric, meanwhile, was pacing around the boy. His eyes were studying every movement that Kyle made and on occasion, he'd give instructions on how he was supposed to move before he would continue his pacing, his eyes as stiff as a hawk on Kyle's back.

After a good moment, Kyle's try became his success. He was being able to roll like Eric had told him to, ending up in a perfect kneel and getting up without loosing his balance. He continued until it became natural. But he couldn't even realise it: he was having a headache, just like if he had been for too long in a carousel. Like a drunken man, he could barely do anything else but his roll.

Eric gave a laugh and calmly grabbed the boy's arms once he'd been up on his feet. "Come along then, Kyle. You've done well today and it's about time for dinner. Let's get you home."

"Did I… do something good this time…? I tried…" the young man ended up looking up to his mentor, disdainfully freeing his arm from his grip. He didn’t wanted to sound like a child. He looked down at his shoes after a moment and added: “For that’s the only good thing I can do. Try”

Eric offered the boy a small smile, a rare thing for the master. "You did good, boy. Now come." Eric turned and began to lead the way back to the inn, where the boy would get his food and a well deserved rest.

Kyle looked up at him in surprise before he nodded, frowning with determination. His mentor had smiled to him. And one way to get that kind of approval from him was to keep on with all the effort he could give to his training. He quickly followed him.
