The lost one

Ora watched the old woman until she disappeared before she locked the front door to the office. She knew Edward would likely have a key and he did tell her there was a crazy man walking around this part of London besides the ripper. Walking back up to the apartment she made herself something to eat before picking up one of the books Victoria had left her. She fell asleep on the couch with the book in her hand.

In the early hours of the morning, at around four o'clock, a strange sound came from up on the roof; something was moving about on the roof. Whatever was up there was big, and rather heavy. It moved slowly, almost as if it was tired and trying to drag itself off to bed. The sounds finally stopped after what sounded like a window being opened.

Edward climbed onto his bed, and curled up, resting his head on his arms. He let out a long, soft moan, although it sounded more like a deep rumbling at that point. It had been a long night, and he had forgotten that Ora was now living there.

Ora never even woke up when he came back in. She slept until the morning light from the window crept in through the window and onto her face. Sitting up she yawned and stretched before going to see what was in his icebox and decided to make her host breakfast. She made enough for them both, bacon, eggs and toast which she hoped he would like.

Edward emerged from his room, following the delicious scent of freshly prepared breakfast, his stomach growling loudly. He was still wearing the same black clothes from the previous day, and a feint smell of wet dog and dried blood seemed to hang about him. Edward happily dug into his meal, savouring every bite. It was amazing.
"Thank you, Ora, this is delicious" Edward managed to say between bites. He seemed ravenous, devouring every single crumb on his plate.

Ora smiled as he complimented her cooking. "I can make more if you want but I would need to run down to the market to get more supplies." She said as she ate her own food. "Or I could make you something different?" She asked looking up at him. She hadn't expected him to be as hungry as he was but if he wanted more she would happily make it for him.

Edward looked up at Ora with a small smile, quickly wiping his mouth with a serviette.
"It's quite alright, Ora, you've done more than enough" Edward said with a smile. He set his plate aside, and took a moment to relax. "How did your lesson with madame Rowan go?"

Ora smiled and took the empty plates before taking them to the sink to wash. "I think it went well. Victoria said I was a fast learner." Ora said with a smile. "Thank you, I never thought I would ever be able to read." She said smiling.

Edward smiled happily when he heard how well the lesson had gone.
"That's wonderful, Ora. You're welcome" Edward said with a smile. He sniffed the air, and quickly wished he hadn't. Edward made his way to the bathroom, and drew a warm bath, setting his clothes aside to be washed. He scrubbed himself vigorously, hoping to get rid of the smells he had accumulated that night.

Ora smiled as she began cleaning the mess she had made while cooking for him while he went to take a bath. She made sure everything was clean before going into her own bedroom. Opening the bag she had she decided to set her things around her room. She placed her fathers old gun in the drawer which sat in the table beside her bed and then placed what else she had. Sighing she sat down on her bed and looked out the window. It didn't take long before she noticed some kids around her age looking up at her window. They could obviously see her. Getting up she got her coat on and went down to talk letting Edward know she was going out for a bit when she passed by the bathroom.

Edward heard Ora leave, and let out a sigh of relief. When he was finished, he made his way to his room, and got dressed before heading to his office to grab some things. After that, he headed out to help London's less fortunate.

Edward spent the better part of the day treating the children, setting bones, treating burns, and stitching up wounds. He did all of this expecting no payment, but they always payed him with information that they had gathered. It was a win win for everyone. Of course, there were always those that could not be treated, and all he could do was ease their suffering.

He watched a young girl die that day, she was only around three or four, the better part of her body crushed in a factory accident. All he could do was provide her with enough painkillers to let her die peacefully.

Edward returned late that afternoon, and immediately poured himself a drink to try take the edge off. He downed the better part of the bottle, and took a seat on the couch, relaxing after the day's events.

Ora spent the day with her friend. She hadn't seen them in a while, the bunch of con artists and they wanted Ora to help them steal a rich man's wallet. Ora normally would have been more than happy to help but under the circumstances, she had to say no. She worked for Edward now and didn't want to do anything to destroy his trust. As it got later and later Ora refused the job and got up to go home. One followed after her though.

The streets were getting dark by the time she made it back to his office. She was just about to open the door when she felt someone knock her off her feet and onto the ground. "So you think you're so much better than us now huh?!" The young man said to her as she got up. "I never said I was better." She spat back. The young man glared and threw a punch but Ora moved out of the way causing him to hit the brick wall of the building. He let out a scream as the knuckles in his hands broke but as he turned, Ora's fist met his face causing him to fall back.

Strange and ungodly noises came from inside the house, something was in there tossing things about, and it was in pain. The scuffle outside had caught the attention of whatever it was, and it was now interested in them. A strange beast emerged from the house, and leapt onto Ora's friend, taking huge chunks of flesh out of the neck and chest. The beast looked somewhat like a wolf, but much bigger, and more humanlike. It had long, shaggy black fur, and cold eyes like that of a shark. The beast seemed to think somewhat as it attacked, trying to avoid spilling blood everywhere. Whatever blood landed on the floor, the beast either lapped up, or rolled around in. The beast caught sight of Ora, and rose to its feet, growling and baring its teeth as it glared at her. It seemed like it was hesitant to attack.

Ora's eyes went wide at the sight of the creature whatever it was. She looked down at the boy who she use to know before looking back at the beast. Without thinking she turned to run and she was very glad she was such a quick runner. She bolted down the street towards some abandoned warehouses where she thought she could hide. She was nearly breathless when she arrived but she couldn't stop. She could swear the beast was right behind her and she couldn't stop running until she was safe. Quickly she ran into one of the old warehouses but found it completely empty with nowhere to hide. She turned to face whatever it was that was coming for her, ready to die facing it.

The beast chased Ora all the way to the warehouse, its pitch black fur rippling as it ran. It came skidding to a halt, and crashed into the wall. The beast lay there motionless for a moment before rising to its feet, and shaking its head. It turned its attention to Ora, snarling and licking its lips as it closed the distance between them, ready to attack. It shook its head a few times, hesitating. It seemed like it didn't really want to attack her, but something was driving it to attack. The beast crouched down, ready to attack Ora.

Ora stood very still as she watched the beast. She was frozen and didn't know what to do. She could see its hesitation but she wasn't sure why it was hesitating but it didn't last long. She watched as it readied it attacks and just before it lunged for her an older woman grabbed her and pulled her out of the way before standing in between Ora and the beast.

The woman stood with her back to ora but the beast would be able to see her eyes turn from their natural human color to a crystal blue as she stared him down.

The beast let out a fierce roar, and leapt to attack the older woman, but another beast knocked it out of the way just in time. The second beast had thick white fur, and seemed much older. The two beasts circled each other, the older one trying to stare down the younger, but it only seemed to make the younger one far more aggressive. The younger one attacked the other beast, leading to a vicious fight between the two beasts. Fur went flying everywhere, and the older beast managed to get in more than a few good bites causing that black beast to whimper in pain. The fight between the two was savage, and it seemed like the older beast could very well kill the younger one, especially when it wrapped its jaws firmly around the younger one's neck, slowly subduing it.

Eden pulled a vile from her belt as the older beast managed to subdue the younger one. Opening the vile Eden placed her hand on the younger beasts head, speaking in a calm voice. "There there. This will make you sleep." She told Edward as she carefully dripped some of what was in the vile into his mouth. It wouldn't take long for the liquid to work. He would be much easier to manage once he woke back up in his human form. Once that was done Eden turned to face the frightened young women laying on her back on the ground. "Oh dear... Don't worry child, we won't hurt you."

The older beast released the younger one as soon as the woman backed away. The beast made its way to the woman's side, slowly taking on the form of an older man with long silver hair.
"The pup needs help. I know there are a few bad ones, but he's the worst I've seen yet" the man said with a sigh. He watched the beast shift and change back to Edward, and let out a sigh before turning to face Ora. "Are you alright, miss? Did he hurt you?" The man seemed kind, caring, and genuinely concerned about Ora.

Ora shook her head giving the man the best answer she could. She was speechless and scared and shocked. Eden smiled softly at the women. "Don't worry dear. He'll be sleeping for some time now so you have nothing to fear." Eden said as Ora stared up at them. Eden turned to her husband. "We should get him to a safe place before he wakes. We have to help him he's our blood." Eden said reminding Gunther just how connected they were with the pup sleeping on the ground though by now he had returned to his human self.

Günther let out a groan, and hung his head. She was right, she was always right. Edward was family, and he needed their help right now.
"Fine. We'll take him to his parents estate, away from prying eyes" Günther said with a sigh before making his way of to Edward, and carefully picking him up. "Miss, I'm afraid you'll need to come with us. Something tells me you have questions."

Eden smiled as she walked over to help the shaking girl up. She froze when she saw who the beast was. "Edward..." She said under her breath as she looked from Edwards sleeping form to the silver-haired man. She didn't know why but she felt as if she had seen him once before. "Come on now dear. We have a carriage waiting." Eden said as she leads Ora out of the Wearhouse knowing her husband wouldn't be far behind her.

Günther carried Edward to the carriage, and set him down inside before taking a seat, and resting Edward's head on his lap. He stared out the window for a moment, thinking about how they would explain the corpse in the alleyway. A dog attack, perhaps?
"I'm sorry for his behaviour, miss. I'm truly sorry that he tried to attack you" Günther said sadly.

Ora looked down at Edward. "I don't understand... Edward is my friend... He saved my life why would he try to kill me?" She asked in a breathless voice which Eden picked up on right away. She simply gave Gunther a silent look as Ora focused for a moment on breathing. "Sometimes youngsters can't control themselves right away," Eden said answering Ora's question. "If he is your friend then it's likely he didn't mean to attack you. He simply wasn't in control."

"Aye, she's right, lass. The young ones lack control, attack anything that moves. He's young, and I suspect the sickness, drink, and drugs have made it much worse for him" Günther said sadly. Günther thought for a moment,  and let out a sigh. "It could also be because of his blood. His mother was from the savage Rakshasa tribes to the east. I had hoped it would not affect him."

We will do everything in our powers to help him, sweetheart. We have to." Eden said as she looked out the window of the carriage. Eden had already called in the house help and made sure they all knew and would keep their little family secrets.

It was dead into the night when they arrived at the old home causing Eden to smile. "I remember when we first came to this place... Such fond memories of this place." This was where Eden and Gunther had come to settle after their pirate days. Eden could remember their son and two daughters running and playing on these grounds before they had to leave for a while. She then looked at Edward and smiled. He looked so much like their son which was where his bloodline had come from.
