A Question of Loyalty - Page 5 Empty
PostSubject: Re: A Question of Loyalty   A Question of Loyalty - Page 5 EmptyThu Oct 11, 2018 10:16 pm

"It has been some time." She admitted. Some time ago she had posed as a midwife some years ago as a spy for the Order. She was immeasurably glad that she hadn't been ordered to kill the man, just to determine his loyalties.
She had no desire to rob a child of their father.
"This is certainly not my area of expertise." She admitted, smiling back at the boy. It had been a long time since she'd seen such joy and innocence. How long would it be before he was forced to see the crueler parts of life, she wondered? Nasrin could only hope that it would be a long time.

"Trust me, I'm no expert either. It took me a while to start figuring out how to do everything right" Lilith said with a laugh. Samael fell asleep in Nasrin's arms, looking so peaceful and innocent.
"Well, you look like a natural" Donahue said with a smile. He grabbed another pastry, savouring the flavour as he ate it. He was starting to get a bit sleepy. Cullen had already passed out on a pile of pillows.

Nasrin laughed. "Perhaps there's hope for me yet." It was a joke that had a ring of truth. Nasrin had thought very little about ever starting a family, but the idea couldn't be helped as she carefully handed the sleeping Samael back to his mother. She couldn't help but wonder what having a family of her own would be like; a husband to rely on, children to care for.
Her smile fell in moments, reality setting back in. Maybe in another life, such things would be possible. But in this one, ties like that would likely only put Nasrin and those she loved in danger.
It wasn't enough to stop her from wanting them, but she had become used to separating want from need.
"I'm going to follow the little one's example and get some rest." She said, her tone just a bit more somber than before. "Thank you for letting us stay here," she said to Lilith, noticing Cullen fast asleep on the pillows.

"It's no problem at all" Lilith said with a chuckle, "Try get some sleep, you two." Lilith carefully woke Cullen, and led him back to their bedroom. She carefully tucked her son into his cot before heading out for the night as she usually did. Donahue had curled up on the pile of pillows not too far from Nasrin, and was snoring lightly. It was clear that he was exhausted.

Despite how tired she was, Nasrin took a while getting to sleep. She smiled at Donahue's snoring before staring at the ceiling, a thousand thoughts rushing across her mind. She drifted into a deep sleep eventually, burrowing a bit into the cushions for warmth.

Lilith woke up early the next morning, and set about making some eggs for everyone. She knew everyone had a busy day ahead, and she at least wanted to make sure everyone had a decent start, especially Donahue as he would be an ass for the rest of the day if he didn't have a good start. The scent of delicious food filled the house, gently tickling the occupants' noses.

The wonderful smell of food cooking woke Nasrin up, the spy smiling at the aroma and stretching her stiff limbs out. Her movements were almost catlike, graceful despite the messy state her hair and clothes were in. It was only upon examining her surroundings that she realized how close she had moved towards Donahue during the night, ending up just an arm's length away from the knight.
Her eyes widened a bit and a light blush dusted her cheeks, something she tried to hide. Getting up as quickly as she could, seeing Lilith working on eggs. "That smells wonderful," she said, smiling.

Donahue was still fast asleep when Nasrin left his side, so he hadn't noticed just how close she was to him. Lilith had added some finely chopped vegetables and herbs to the eggs, mixing everything together. There were four small bowls filled with couscous, just waiting for the eggs.
"Thank you, Nasrin. I hope you enjoy it" Lilith said with a chuckle. She quickly ran a bowl of food to the bedroom for Cullen before heading back to the kitchen. Lilith handed Nasrin her food with a smile, hoping she would enjoy the food. "Would you mind taking Donahue's food to him?"

"I'd be happy to." Nasrin nodded, taking the food from Lilith. Her mouth watered at the smell of a home-cooked meal. She made her way back to where Donahue slept, smiling to see the dark-haired knight still fast asleep. "I'd hate to interrupt your beauty sleep, but Lilith made us breakfast." Nasrin said, leaning close to Donahue's ear before setting his bowl beside him.

Donahue stirred at Nasrin's voice, slowly opening his eyes. He stretched as he sat up, letting out a mighty yawn as he did so.
"Ah, thank you, Nasrin, and good morning" Donahue said with a smile. His hair was still messy from his sleep, but it was too early to care about appearances. He took the bowl, and immediately dug in, enjoying the flavours that Lilith had managed to cram into the dish. He paused for a moment, looking at Nasrin with a smile. "Sleep well?"

"Very," Nasrin nodded, savoring the tastes of the eggs Lilith had made. "And you?" She assumed he had, if the near-catatonic state he'd been in was any indication.

"Very well" Donahue said with a chuckle, "First time in a long time." Donahue turned his attention back to the bowl of food, enjoying the meal. It seemed like it was the best food he had had in a while. He thought to himself for a while, thinking of Nasrin and her mission, and found himself worrying about her. "Please stay safe out there with that Assassin, Nasrin."

A Question of Loyalty - Page 5 Empty
PostSubject: Re: A Question of Loyalty   A Question of Loyalty - Page 5 EmptyTue Oct 16, 2018 10:26 pm

Taking her last bite of food, Nasrin nodded solemnly. "I will be. And you stay safe yourself. All things considered, you're at greater risk of being targeted by him than I am." With any luck, the Assassin wouldn't know the difference between her and any common beggar on the street. Still, she did find herself worrying like she never had before. For herself, Lilith and Donahue. There was much on the line.
She thanked Lilith for the meal again before reaching into her pack and pulling out a modest dress. She tamed her wild hair and donned the outfit, covering her hair. She slid her thin knife into its hiding place up her sleeve, easily accessible but out of sight. To anyone who did not know to look for her, Nasrin was just another of the hundreds of women in Acre.
"Good luck," She said in place of a goodbye, her eyes met Donahue's and she held his intense gaze longer than she meant to.

"Good luck on your mission, Nasrin" Donahue said with a smile, holding her gaze for a moment. Back in the bedroom, Cullen was busy freaking out about something.
"JESUS CHRIST! Lilith! Your son's caught a bloody snake" Cullen cried, sounding rather alarmed.
"What's he doing to it?"
"He's chewing it! Aren't you going to do anything about it?!" Donahue couldn't help but laugh before looking to Nasrin once again.
"Go on, and stay safe. I'll see you later, Nas" Donahue said with a smile.
"It's not even venomous, Cullen."
"It's a bloody snake!"

Nasrin smiled at the shouting coming from the other room, examining the house for a final time before stepping out the door. The warmth she had let slip through for the past few days was gone, replaced by the mask of a struggling woman. Her eyes scanned the street around her, and moments later she was vanishing into the crowd.
As she drew closer to her destination, she realized that the advice she'd been given was more accurate than she'd hoped it would be. When she finally did reach the hospital, the first thing she noticed was the screams on the air.

Donahue watched Nasrin leave, hoping she would be alright against the Assassin. He quickly took the dishes to the kitchen before heading off to meet with the local commander. The city was as busy as usual, and just as hot as ever. Black armour and the scorching sun were never a good combination, so Donahue stuck to the shade as much as he could. He finally met with the local commander at a tavern where they had a discussion over drinks.

Nasrin found her hiding spot among the crowds and began watching the Hospital and the area around it, trying to ignore the screams coming from inside. She examined the structure of the Hospital, noting the guards and the scaffolding up the side. She frowned, knowing that the wall being rebuilt would be a prime opportunity for an Assassin who could climb.
Making her way across the courtyard, Nasrin moved away from the Hospital, constantly looking for the trademark white robes of the Assassin. While she didn't see her quarry, a man yelling at a crowd in front of a church caught her eye.
He raised his arms like a preacher would, though it was clear that he wasn't one. "Soon, my friends; soon the good doctor will attend to your needs! Be patient, hold hope close!" It was obvious enough to Nasrin that this "doctor" was Naplouse. From what she had heard - both from Donahue and the screaming from the Hospital - Nasrin didn't believe a word of what this man was saying.

"I don't really care how you and De Sable run things there in Jerusalem, but I will not allow you to let your little demon bitch slaughter people in my city."
"So De Naplouse is allowed to continue with his horrific experiments and bring dishonour to the name of our order, but she cannot hunt?" Donahue took a sip of his drink, glaring at the pompous fool before him. Oh how he despised this man...
"Garnier is a man of God, and he is doing the Lord's work. That demon and her spawn have no place in this city unless she's nailed to a bloody cross! Mark me, she'll die just like that damned husband of hers..."
"If you, or anyone else harm my sister or her son, I will personally send you to your maker" Donahue growled, filled with rage and hatred. He finished his drink, and left the tavern, heading for the hospital as he cursed beneath his breath.

A Question of Loyalty - Page 5 Empty
PostSubject: Re: A Question of Loyalty   A Question of Loyalty - Page 5 EmptySun Oct 21, 2018 2:24 am

Her eyes sweeping the area in front of the church, Nasrin's shoulders slackened a bit when she didn't see anything out of the ordinary. She hadn't expected to find much today, other than perhaps some insight into how the Assassin might attack Garnier. She followed the crowd that was beginning to leave the square, vaguely aware that the herald had stopped his tirade. She glanced back at him one last time, seeing him step down down the steps...
And a flash of white robes she glimpsed amidst the sea of people.
She controlled her breathing, calming herself just as she had been trained to. Stay hidden and learn as much as you can, she thought to herself, turning her focus back to the group of people she traveled with. As soon as she was out of sight of the courtyard, she split from the group and stepped into an alley. Peering around the corner, she saw the herald make his way out of the courtyard, moving in the opposite direction Nasrin had gone in.
"Damn."

PostSubject: Re: A Question of Loyalty   A Question of Loyalty - Page 5 EmptySun Oct 21, 2018 6:10 am

Donahue arrived at the hospital, keeping an eye on Nasrin from a distance. He knew how dangerous this particular Assassin was, and he wanted to be able to help Nasrin if she bit off more than she could chew. Due to his rank, he would likely be a target himself, but he was brilliant warrior, and there had been few attempts on his life, so he was confident he would be alright. Cullen had been moving along the rooftops, keeping an eye on both Nasrin and Donahue since Lilith was at home with Samael for the day. His movements were slightly hindered as a result of his injuries, but he still managed to move about like a regular Assassin in his old robes.

A Question of Loyalty - Page 5 Empty
PostSubject: Re: A Question of Loyalty   A Question of Loyalty - Page 5 EmptySun Oct 21, 2018 3:22 pm

Weighing her options, Nasrin looked around. She could see the Assassin trailing the herald, making his way down the same side-street the man had gone down. Knowing she might not get another chance like this, Nasrin took a breath before stepping back into the main street. Across from her was another alley, more secluded and out of sight.
As soon as she was sure that no one would see her, Nasrin pulled her skirt up to her knees and began to climb. She was not as familiar with Acre as she was with Jerusalem, but she knew the direction the Assassin had gone in and headed that way. She was grateful that any archers were off in the distance, no doubt more focused on patrolling the Hospital perimeter than the church.
Leaping across a gap between buildings, Nasrin landed as quietly as she could manage, hearing voices coming from below.
"...once he's got his hands on them, then the pain begins." It was easy enough to recognize the herald's voice. The second one, she was not familiar with.
"He's no healer then. Just a sick, cruel man."
Nasrin continued listening, her body pressed against the rooftop so she couldn't be seen from below. The herald was terrified, giving up information freely. His loyalty to Garnier obviously did not run deep. "You must pick the proper time. Go to him, when he attends to the patients. He forgets the world around him, becomes lost in his work."
The conversation confirmed Nasrin's suspicions. This man was none other than Altaïr. Having learned what she needed to know, Nasrin slipped away unseen, making her way down the side of a building and taking a seat in the square outside of the church.

A Question of Loyalty - Page 5 Empty
PostSubject: Re: A Question of Loyalty   A Question of Loyalty - Page 5 EmptySun Oct 21, 2018 4:08 pm

Donahue didn't really know what to do when he lost sight of Nasrin, initially panicking, concerned that the Assassin would get her. He took a deep breath, remembering that Nasrin was perfectly capable of looking after herself, and headed into the hospital to get some medication. Cullen, however, kept an eye on Nasrin just as he promised Lilith he would. The two could both see that there was something between Donahue and Nasrin, and they wanted to protect that.

Donahue wandered the hospital, examining De Naplouse's patients, disgusted with what they had become. These poor unfortunate souls rendered completely mad by the hands of De Naplouse... It was perhaps the second most vile thing he had ever seen. After a few minutes of the stench and sounds, Donahue had to leave as he couldn't take it anymore. He took a seat on a nearby bench, immediately drawing the attention of a small cat. The two sat there on the bench, waiting for some news or some action.

A Question of Loyalty - Page 5 Empty
PostSubject: Re: A Question of Loyalty   A Question of Loyalty - Page 5 EmptySun Oct 21, 2018 8:26 pm

Nasrin was unaware of Cullen's eyes on her, her focus instead on the Assassin who stalked out of the alley he'd just followed the herald into. The man Altaïr followed was nowhere to be found, and Nasrin didn't need much imagination to know that he was likely dead.
She watched him go, walking past the church and just about to head down a side street. While the possibility to find his hideout was tempting, Nasrin wouldn't risk him noticing her. She had gleamed enough info to intercept the Assassin if her timing was right. Hissing out a breath, Nasrin let him go.
Taking the route she had followed earlier, Nasrin began to head back to the Hospital. Examining the defenses set up would help her, and if she could get inside, it would be even better.
She couldn't help but smile when she saw Donahue seated outside, a cat beside him. The naqib she wore hid her face, but she had faith that Donahue would recognize her voice. "I see you've made a friend," she smiled, walking up beside him.

"It would seem so, miss" Donahue said with a warm smile. He knew full well that it was Nasrin, but he didn't want to blow her cover. He gently scratched the cat behind the ear, causing it to purr happily. "It's good to see you're alright, Nasrin. In truth, I was worried" Donahue whispered. He looked to the hospital, thinking for a moment. While he had been inside, he had studied the various routes the Assassin might take. "There are a few beams up in the rafters of the hospital. From what Cullen explained of how the Assassins work, I assume the Assassin will strike from above." Donahue explained all of this in hushed whispers, his eyes not moving from the cat curled up on his lap.
