A Ninja's Reveng(closed)

Ronin sat quietly on the branch of a tree that overhung across the open ground below. His ice-shard eyes were scanning the streets below, a hand gripping the branch above him and the other one pressing against the trunk beside him to keep himself stable. No one knew who he was looking for, but he knew. He was looking for any enemies that would stop him from reaching his goal. Taking a deep, calming breath, Ronin dropped from the tree and tucked into a roll before he rose to his feet and walked over to the horse he took out of the town.

Running a hand down its black neck, he swung up into the saddle and made his way through the grass and trees. It was growing dark by the time he reached some sort of ruined house. He pulled up the black horse and slid down from the saddle and made his way toward the house. Judging by the smell, it'd been burned down. With a small frown gracing his face, Ronin explored a little bit, walking around the house and taking in all that it once was. Then he paused when something caught his eye. Two crosses sat in the ground with mounds of churned earth stretched before it. Graves. What happened here?

Fiona had made it just before dark to what use to be a grand house, full of laughter and warmth.  She was almost upon the house when she saw a horse. It was saddled but she couldn’t see a rider. Dismounting she hid her Gypsy vanner and hid him in the thick brush of the forest before crouching. A bit of pain shot up her left leg from her knee.  She had been in a fight the day before and they had gotten a lucky shot to the knee and she was unlucky to be drunk.


She looked around the yard before making a dash to the front door. Slowly and as quietly as possible she opened and closed it before slowly walking through.  She didn’t like it when people simply arrived and took a look around. She made her way into the kitchen when she looked out the burnt and broken window to find a man standing by her parent’s graves. Her parents had been gone for a few years now but she was extremely protective of the graves. She then took a deep breath before jumping out the window and into the snow. Pulling a pistol from her belt she spoke "Now who are you and why shouldn’t I shoot you?”

Upon hearing someone drop to the snow and the sound of a gun being pulled free of its holster, Ronin's muscles instinctively tensed. He had to ball his hands into fists to keep from grabbing the katana that rested against the small of his back. Slowly, he turned his head, his intense, ice shard-eyes the only thing visible currently, as his hood hid his hair and the mask he wore(cloth) hid the rest of his face. He didn't speak. Instead, he studied this young woman for a moment before he bowed from the waist up, placing a fist up before his chest and resting against his other hand. "Forgive me for intruding," he said softly, his voice as quiet as a shadow, but not inaudible. "I was just passing through."

Ronin straightened up from his bow and lowered his hands to his sides before studying her again. He wouldn't say anything that would get him into the hands of the Templars. "If you must know...." Silence hung the rest of his sentence for a moment before he adjusted his hood and the bracer that housed his father's hidden blade. "I am an Assassin."

She didn’t lower her gun as he spoke, her eyes only leaving his as she glanced down at the hidden blade but still her gun stayed aimed at the intruder. She was silent for a few moments before finally lowering her gun. “How do I know ya didn’t kill an assassin and yer not a bleeding Templar in disguise.” She asked. She knew a great deal about the assassin’s and Templars which she had just let him know by asking that questions.

She had relaxed a bit and lowered the gun a bit but if he came at her she would be able to rise and shoot it with no problem. “What brought you to this place?” She asked as she took a few steps closer. She was doing her best not to limp and hopped he hadn’t seen. In truth he was interesting to her, her father had told her of the assassin’s and that she could do everything they could thanks to the things he taught her but she had never meet an assassin besides her father.

Ronin couldn't help but chuckle. It was an eerie sound, though it wasn't unkind. "If I was a Templar," he said slowly, gently pointing a finger toward her, the back of his hand covered by his uniform. "You would be dead. They call me Shadō, Japanese for The Shadow."

A grin appeared as he spoke, She had killed a few Templars herself but none of the one’s she wanted. “Oh aye? Well Shadō if thats what ya think then fine.” She lowered her gun and slipped it back into it holster. “I’ll trust ya for now.” She said with an light Irish brogue as she causiously moved towards him to the graves. “ You never told me what brought you here… Why are you out here? What are you looking for?” She asked as she placed her hand on the top of one of the crosses. She knelt down and as she’s doing that a necklace falls out from her shirt. The chain is gold with an emerald as its decoration. On the emerald was the symbol for the assassins.

She hadn’t noticed that the necklace had falling out. She was to focused on the grave. Turning she put two fingers up to her mouth and whisled causing her large horse to come trotting up and out of the forest. It came bolting for her but stopped just short. Grabbing the reins she used it to help her up. It was hard to ignore the pain in her leg but she was doing a good job is she said so herself. Reaching into a bag at the horses side she pulled out some flowers and laid them on the graves.

"I am hunting someone," Ronin said, his voice never losing its soft tone. He never gave anything more than the fact he was hunting someone. Like her, he didn't trust easy and so didn't say much. Though, he wouldn't say much even if he did trust her. It was his way.

She looked up at the darkening sky and sighed. It would be rude of her to send him on his way in the dark. “Come inside… I need to get settled in for the night and I would rather not leave you out here in the cold.” She said as she reached into the bag on her horse and pulled out a bottle of whisky before walking back towards the house. She went to the main room where she tossed in a few logs and went to get it started. She hadn’t brought food she thought she would have been too drunk to have eaten but now she was wishing she had bought something from the market. She didn’t know if he had followed her as she winced as she took her seat.

Ronin had indeed followed her inside and looked at her as she winced. He didn't say anything for a while and then he gave a nod toward her knee. "Would you like some herbs?" He questioned quietly.

Ava looked up at him and then to her leg. “I won’t argue if you wish to help me.” She said before her eyes returned to the flames. She was curious and wanted to ask him some questions about the brotherhood. “So… assassin… Who are you hunting?” She spoke softly and the question was barely above a whisper.

Upon her permission, Ronin moved over to her and sat down on the ground, pulling out a pouch filled with healing herbs, setting them aside before the gently laid a hand on her knee. "Templars," he said in that quiet tone of his while he began to work on creating a wrap to help heal her knee. "Templars that killed my parents."

She sighed still looking at the fire. “Oh did they? What a coincidence… so were mine.” She said with a sigh. Opening the bottle of whisky she took a rather large drink before sitting the bottle down. “Please forgive my greeting… I didn’t know who you were.” She said before looking up at him. “Will you please remove the hood and mask?”

Ronin froze at her request, his heart beating quickly in his chest for a moment before he seemed to recover his cool rather quickly. Instead of answering or moving to remove them, he remained quiet and instead spread out what he'd created onto a strip of cloth. He nodded toward her knee. "Could you show me your knee?" He questioned calmly. "The medicine will not work unless it touches bare skin."

Leaning forward she pulled off her boot and then pulled up the leather pants she was wearing to uncover her knee. “My father was an assassin. He told me I would be someday as well but you’re the first assassin I’ve come across.” She told him as she turned to watch the flames once again.

Ronin carefully placed the medicine that rested on the cloth against her knee before he wrapped the cloth around to the back and tied it tight. "Not surprising," he said softly, gently patting the medicine down so that it was smothering her entire knee, wiping away the access that oozed from the cloth's edges and proceeding to wipe it off his hands. "I doubt any Assassins come out this far."

Once he had bandaged her knee she pulled her pants back down and pulled her. “Aye.” She gave him the best smile she could. She glanced at the window before sighing. “Forgive me for asking but you wouldn’t happen to have any food with you would you?” She asked her smile slowly disappearing.

Ronin gave a small dip of his head. He tied the bag of herbs to his side, he rose to his feet. "In my saddlebags," he said slowly. "Would you mind if I go get them?"

She gave him a nod and a kind smile. "Please feel free to move around as you wish." She told him. She couldn't help but smile this man was quite good looking and his eyes were hard not to look at. "Would you like a drink?" She asked holding up the bottle of whisky she had brought with her.

Ronin chuckled quietly and turned toward her with his intense eyes. "Please, let me go get you some food." It wasn't the first time he'd completely ignored her question, which made him appear even more mysterious than he already was. Quickly, Ronin seemed to disappear, his form appearing in the window just outside the main door, where he seemed to be fishing through the saddlebags. After a few minutes, Ronin returned just as quickly as he had left and unwrapped a couple of sandwiches, which he handed over to her before he took up his seat again.

She smiled and thanked him before taking a bite. "Ya know ya have ignored most of my questions laddie. Feel free ta answer them anytime." She said before taking another bite of her food. "Perhaps if ya told me who you were lookin for I could help ya." She said as she leaned back agents the wall.

"A man," Ronin said, his voice never rising from the shadow soft tone that it had harbored since she met him. "With a scar on the right side of his face." His voice hardened as he described the man he was hunting down, but he never lost his calm nature.

She remained quiet for a long while as she thought about it, her eyes never leaving the flames. After a moment she spoke. “I myself haven’t seen a man like this but I may know someone who may know him or where to find him.” She said her eyes never leaving the flames. “But it will have to wait till morning”

Ronin gave a small nod of his head and turned to look at the flames for a moment before he rose to his feet and headed outside for a moment. The black horse snorted when he approached, though all he did was run a hand down its neck before he fished into the saddlebag and pulled out another sandwich. He gave the horse another stroke before he went back inside and sat down.

When he came back Fiona was taking another drink. She was tired which was obvious from the dark circles under her eyes. She had eaten the last of her food when he walked in and she gave him a smile when she saw him. "Its late... I'm going to sleep now..." She told him as she laid down. The whole time they had been sitting there she had stayed a good distance from the fire but still close enough to feel it warmth. It didn't take long for her to fall into the darkness of sleep.

Ronin nodded and moved from his spot near her so that he was sitting closer to the fire. He said there in silence, eating his sandwich and reflecting on everything that had happened that day.
