PostSubject: Blindfolded (closed with JacobPolley13)   Sun Feb 14, 2016 2:37 am

It was the middle of the night when Shaeem opened her blind eyes to the beautiful night sky. Laying on a rooftop, Shaeem had been blindly watching over Boston, like an old owl up to the forest. Her arms being used as pillow under her head, she kept still for a moment before she slowly rose up, running her hand to her black fine hair. It was summertime there and so, people kept outside more often then what they did during wintertime.

Aged 17, Shaeem Crystaleye never had been a normally considered girl. Since she was born she had been part of the Assassins. Orphan baby being abandoned at the first Assassin’s Guild door, people had been terrified when they realised that her young little eyes were blind and unseeing, but that somehow, they felt just like if she was looking deep into their souls. Having no name, people called her with a deviation of the word “Shame”, which was Shaeem. The poor girl was a shame to the whole Creed until she proved to be worthy enough to be an Assassin. The girl never knew her real name, if she did had one.

In some way, the girl was wonderful. With facial features that were no less than perfect and smooth, and long soft hair. But her eyes were troubling anyone who was to see her, making them automatically think of her being ugly. Her skin was a little tanned, which was a problem for the Assassins. Since her deep crystal eyes were the scariest thing most people had ever seen, and that they matched in a creepy way her long hair, people had decided to pretend she was some sort of ghost to scare the Templars. For long now, people did think she was a young girl who had long been killed by mighty Templars. Shaeem actually was more alive than anyone else. Her Master often did put talc on her face so she would look as pale as snow, but the girl didn’t like the dizziness it gave her each time her Master was to put powder on her face. But he did continued treating her as a ghost, so did every Assassin she worked with. And, finally, she ended up thinking she actually was a dead being. She had accepted the role it was given to her.

Slowly bringing a hand to her hip, she started listening around, air running through her long black hair while she was trying to see if someone needed her help, but the night was calm and quiet. She wasn’t on duty, so she was watching over the city. That was her only living purpose. Helping people.

Elias was wandering the rooftops of Boston, moving with quick, light feet to not make much noise. He leaped and leaped across the gaps between the buildings to eventually come to a taller building. He eased himself to the top and perched himself there, looking down at the rest of Boston in the glory of the night. He sighed as saw the beauty of the scene, but new himself that this was not as pretty as it looked. The things that happened here were of no way comparable to its beauty at night.

As Elias was amazed at the view, he noticed a woman laying on the rooftop of a nearby building. She was clearly an Assassin, and he believed it was Shaeem. At least, so he hoped.

Shaeem was such a mysterious person and Elias found her very interesting. He had heard a guy in a bar speak of her and said she was "scary" and "weird". Elias had talked to the man and, well, the man didn't make it out of the bar walking. Or breathing, now that Elias thought about it.

Elias shook his head and began to climb down and go over to her silently. She would hear him before he even got over there though, so he didn't even bother to try to sneak up on her.

He finally reached the roof she was laying at. "Do you mind if I join you, Shaeem? Or is this spot taken?"

For the longest time, Shaeem just kept there before she heard someone climbing behind her. She sat and turned to the sound of the upcoming one, raising her eyebrows under her fringe. That same one asked to sit next to her. That voice, she had heard it before… She frowned a little before she looked surprised. Sure she did know that voice! Shaeem pretended to look up at the man, before she moved a little, leaving him space enough to sit down next to her. That was her only answer, but apparently, it was positive. She turned back at staring the nothing with her white blind eyes. He did remembered her name. It already was amazing.

“Please, do so” she said in her normal voice with no sarcasm, simply pretending to look away. Why would a human being even sit next to her? It was dangerous. What if she would curse people? She only felt that bad next to Assassins, or with whom aura felt totally human. Shaeem was one to be able to smell auras, literally smell them. She wasn’t able to use her eyes, so instead, she had learned to know someone by scent, just as animals did.

She kept still a moment before she closed her blind eyes to concentrate. The man’s aura wasn’t the one of someone who would hurt her, not to do something to turn her ridiculous in front of people. Shaeen nodded to herself. So far, she could let that man stay next to her. He wasn’t going to hurt her. She just was scared to hurt him.

Elias was surprised at Shaeem's tone. He didn't know her to be that welcoming, knowing that she was such a mysterious and the kind to distance herself from others.

He sat down and she had finally turned and look at him, throwing Elias off balance for a second. Her looks might have frightened others, but Elias found her to be a beautiful young woman. Sure, her eyes were white, but they did resemble that of two crystals when the moonlight shined on them.

He couldn't help but thinking that there was another man who has felt the same way towards her, but he was sure that he was the fastest. Then again, he was probably the shortest, too. Maybe he wasn't the strongest either?

Elias now realizing he took a few moments too long to overthink everything, he blinked a few times  and cleared his throat.

"So, what brings you out here on this dark, beautiful night, Shaeem?"

Shaeem kept immobile for a moment. She just could hear the breathing of the new one. His aura seemed to be the one of a confused man. He kept silent a long moment before her dared to talk again. Why was he so insecure? Was it because he suddenly realised who she was? Was he going to scream at her? Break the night's silence and bring attention to her? She pretended to look down, her hair soon hiding her face under a shadow.

"Only my duty. I am here to be sure Boston sleeps well." And, as sincerely as she could: "I probably died in one of these streets. If I can work for people not to end up like I did, I will"

Apparently, her role had taken over her. She seemed so sincere when she was telling Elias that she had died in Boston's streets. It was sort of terrifying, even sad, to know that a Guild's Master had done everything to make one of his students think she was less than human so she would be more effective. She stayed like that a moment before she slightly turned her head to him, but not enough for Elias to see her face, which was still hidden under her hair.

"And what brings you here?"

Elias was saddened for a split second. She really thought she was dead Elias thought to himself before answering her question.

"Well, I was just wandering the streets and decided to hop around on the rooftops and then go to a higher point and look over Boston before I saw you. You were over here by yourself, so I thought I'd come over and keep you company."

Elias secretly wanted to see how her eyes shined in the moonlight again, but he was sure there would be another time where he would see her eyes again.

Above all, Elias could not fathom the fact that she truly believes she's dead. She is definitely more alive than he was if anything. Shaeem probably had a bit more muscle than he did. Well, now that Elias thought of it, she was actually way faster too.

"It's nights like these that I come to not only appreciate, but hate this place. It's so wonderful at night, but the things that happen here are...are just the worst sometimes." Elias said, remembering the death of his Grandfather.

Shaeem said no words when he was talking to her. He had came there for her to have company? That was weird. It almost sounded like an act of friendship. But how could she even have a friend, regarding what she was? Even then, she softly nodded, closing her empty eyes.

"They are" she answered when he told about how of a traitor was the city. She kept silent for a moment, like looking over the streets, before she whispered: "My Mentor told me that several years ago, my body had been found somewhere down those streets. It was the Redcoat's fault, they were the one who did that to me. Because of them I am now trapped to this world, with no eyes to see. He told me that if there was something he could do for me was to train me to help people not ending like I did. Someday maybe, it will work"

She stayed like that a moment before she slightly turned to him, again in a way he couldn't see her face. He barely could see her mouth. "Why do you hate this place so much? Who died here? Who broke you by their absence?"

Elias was trying not to cry at both the fact that she thinks she is actually dead and the fact that his Grandfather is dead.

"Ahem. Well, my Grandfather died here years ago. He was like a Father to me since my real Father was an abusive..." Elias was saying before his scar began to itch and he nearly began to cry.

"I'm sorry, Shaeem. I must go now. I assure you, it's not your fault. Just the topic has..." Elias was able to get that much out before he began to cry and run as if he was running from the Devil himself. Except this Devil was the memories that he had of his Father and his Grandfather.

Elias ran and hopped and leaped across the rooftops until he couldn't anymore when he reached his Grandfather's house. The place he was trained for so many years...he would always take refuge here when he was upset. Elias entered the house and sat in a chair that faced another chair in front of the fireplace. The chair adjacent to him was his Grandfather's chair.

"Oh Papa...why..." Elias said before he cried uncontrollably and was no longer able to speak.

Shaeem jumped a little when she heard the voice of Elias being like… broken. What had she done? She rose up a little, turning to the man while pretending she was looking at him. “Elias?”

She did remember his name. But so far, she had found no reason to say it. She followed him by fake stare when he got up. He was telling her it wasn’t her fault… But when she heard him start to cry, she quickly jumped on her feet and tried to reach for him with her hand. But soon, he had vanished. He was gone. “Elias!” No answers. She kept there and started walking on the roof, trying to find him back. Did she… Was it a curse she gave him without even acknowledging it? She started to try to follow his path but quickly lost it. If she had started running after him right after he had gone, she could have done something. But Shaeem had waited for too long. She stayed there and closed her eyes, trying to follow his aura. She started walking.

It took her almost half an hour to find the house he was hiding in. She knew it since she felt his aura being everywhere. Like floating, broken into little pieces. She approached the door and raised the hand to knock on the wooden door, but stop just before her hand would touch it. Slowly, she backed up. He really had to be alone. She had to leave him, at least a moment. Here was no thing she could do right now.

Elias woke up to the footsteps approaching the door. It had to be Shaeem. He had realized how much of a fool he was being leaving her. She would hate him now and had come to yell at him for sure. Elias opened the door to find it was indeed Shaeem. He wiped the somewhat dry tears off his face and rubbed his eyes.

"I'm sorry for leaving so abruptly, Shaeem. It was just...you say you're dead, but you are most obviously not. Then the topic of death made me think of my Grandfather and, well, I got upset. For that, I am sorry."

She stayed quiet when the other one opened the door, stepping back a little. She stayed there before she pretended to look down. Then that was the reason why he had flee. Her, being dead. He couldn't understand, she was. For years now, she was a ghost, a girl killed long ago in the streets of Boston. But she had to keep quiet on the subject. She stayed like that before she took off one or her earrings. It was a shiny silver symbol of the Assassins. Shaeem said no word but handed him the tiny earing after a moment.

"No matter what, we need to stay strong and united. The Guild is still weak, here, in the Colonies. When you'll be ready, search for me and we'll go for a mission. We have to stay strong"

She took off her hood to pretend to look at him right in the eyes. "Take it. If we are real brothers in arms, you'll bring it to me when you'll feel the need to"

Elias was shocked. He didn't know what to do or say, yet words spilled from his mouth.

"I am ready now. So please, keep it Shaeem."

He dusted himself off and took a deep breath and coughed a couple times to clear his throat.

"So, maybe we should get a mission after all. Where to, Shaeem?"

Elias was ready to get a good mission in. It has been a while since he has really gotten a true mission from the Creed in the Colonies. They never took him seriously for his height...

She raised eyebrows under her fringe when he refused to take the Assassin symbol. She stayed like that, silent, before she closed her hand upon it. Shaeem was about to ask him why, but he told her before: he wanted to go on a mission with her. She kept still before she made a quick and slight reverence.

"I need before to know what you are good at"

She put her earing back after a moment, never taking off her eyes from him. "I heard your walk. It is light and clear. You seem to be someone who hides real well"

"Well, thank you. I'd be glad to show you more of my talents." Elias said.

"Lead the way."

"I will"

She lightly smiled at him and turned her back before she started walking. She did look like a ghost. The more Elias looked at her, the more she looked like a supernatural being. It ws almost if her feet didn't touch the ground at all. Her hair, long and dark, was waving in her back as she slowly walked away from the house. We need to stay strong, she had told him, but she herself looked as fragile as a thin piece of glass.

Elias would then follow Shaeem, emotions now numbed by the possibility of going on a contract given to them. Oh, the rush he was getting.

"Where to, then, Shaeem?" Elias asked.

He had not an idea where he would have to test his skills, but he hoped that it wouldn't be specifically in strength. That's something he himself would have to work on over time. And if it comes to being tall, well, he'd lose in that section, possibly, as well.

"I took a contract I fancied and I thought could fit the both of us"

She kept on walking for a moment before she slowly stopped and turned to him."There's a cargo coming from England that will enter the port as soon as the sun will touch the horizon in the morning. It is the red coat guards' ammunitions. And money"

She nodded a little and she turned back to where she was heading. "It means, we destroy the cargo and we keep the money. They won't need it. We shouldn't get noticed or else we will have to fight, and we don't want that"

She turned back to him after a moment. "You're in?"

Elias was greatly intrigued by this contract. He took a moment to consider. The two of them could get the job done no problem, but if he could get some of the ammunition for his rebel friends, then it could help the rebels if any Redcoats decided to raid.

"I'm in, but we need to save some of the ammunition." Elias said, getting a crazy idea. Elias looks Shaeem in the eyes and asks her, "Have you ever hijacked a ship before?" Hearing the words come out of his own mouth made him pumped a little. He himself had never hijacked a ship before, but if we hijacked the ship, then surely it could be put to the use of the rebels...but where would it go?

"What?"

She quickly turned back to him and after a moment, she walked up to him. "Don't be out of your mind... I won't hijack anything. We destroy the ammunitions, and we bring back the money to the Guild"

She kept silent for a moment before her blind eyes slowly and almost shylly turned away. "And... I don't think we can make it without getting injured"

It didn't take long for Elias to notice that Shaeem wasn't completely okay with the whole hijacking idea, but he came up with an idea.

"Oh, come on Shaeem. We can do it! Look, I'll get some friends of mine that are rebels to help out, and we'll go in and take the ship. If anything, we can take the ship, drop the ammo off to some rebels, and keep the ship for the Guild! The least we can do is come back with more than money, Shaeem." Elias said with a spark in his eye.

Elias understood that they might be hurt in the process, but it's nothing that can't be done.

"I'll contact a friend of mine here in Boston and he can get us some rebels."

"Wait!"

She quickly touched his arm, but kept still for a moment before she slowly backed up. She said no words for a moment before she nodded. Elias wasn't sure, but he thought he saw her blushing under the white talc she was wearing on her face. After a moment, she nodded.

"I will follow you"

He was surprised for just a moment. Not just at the fact that she might have been blushing, he thought, but at the fact that she would be following him. This was never something he would have ever thought he'd be doing. Nevertheless, they had a contract and it was about time they get on to it. The ship would be coming at dawn and they needed to be prepared for that to happen.

Elias looked Shaeem in the eyes and said, "Let us be off, then."

The two of them then began to run through the streets of Boston, heading to an ally where Elias often met his friend Henry who was a local thief and apart of the rebels in the area.

"I'm going to find a pigeon coop. I'll be back." Elias said to Shaeem, leaving her to chill in the alleyway. Luckily for him, on the other side of the alleyway was a pigeon coop. Elias took a piece of yellowed paper from his pocket, unrolled it, and wrote a small message.

"Meet up in the usual place. Come fast. ~E" was what the message read. Elias rolled it up, tied it with a small piece of string, attached it to the pigeon, and let the pigeon fly off to be received by Henry soon, hopefully.

"Now, we must wait. It usually doesn't take longer than a few minutes for Henry to get my messages. Hopefully he gets it faster this time."

She slowly walked up to him and kept quiet before she turned a little bit around. "There is no chance they might know what we are doing. It dosen't mean it is less dangerous. We have to be incredibly careful. More that what we would usually be."

She ended up turning to him and closed her blind white eyes, sighing a little. "You have to follow me. I wouldn't want you to get hurt"

She kept silent, and then: "There is also... one last thing I can do if it all turns wrong, but I need your help. My appareance helps to scare people. I can make them see me for what I am: a monster. Whenever I'll start the masquerade, you need to flee and never turn back."

"Scaring people is the last thing you need me to do. If I do so, please run and keep what you already have, and please, make sure no one follows you"
