Background/Biography:
Jonathan was born into the Donnelly line, a family that was beginning to get its strength back, thanks to Samuel Donnelly's son, Edward Donnelly. His birth was during the Summer Solstice, which to his family was a marvel in of itself. He grew up hardly knowing what his father did. However, that all changed when a Templar attacked his home and killed his mother. John was only seven at the time.
His father took him and his elder brother to the Assassin bureau closest to them in Jamestown and there, the brothers were taken in by the Assassins. Jonathan grew into the perfect student, doing what his Mentor asked of him. Even their father was proud. That hurt his brother, Donovan.
At age sixteen, Jonathan was sworn into the Brotherhood as an Assassin. It was around that time that his father was killed in action and John took that pretty hard. Donovan, however, hadn't cared less, which hurt the young Assassin even more.
A few years passed and Jonathan got into a fight with another young man. The fight started with fists and ended with swords. John, being a good swordsman, had done well in defending himself. However, it wasn't enough and the other young man caught him across the face with the tip of his sword. John walked away with a scar across his right eye and with a slight blind spot.
After John's wound had healed, he and Donovan were sent on a mission of extreme importance. However, they were caught by the Templars they'd been tracking for a few days. What John found odd was that Donovan wasn't held prisoner like he was. Instead, the older man was speaking to the Templars as though he knew them well.
The ruling on John's death was decided, however his Mentor stepped up in place of the boy. Donovan was surprised, but the Templars agreed that they'd let John go if his mentor was killed instead, and his mentor was a Master Assassin.
The following day, John was held by his brother while he watched his mentor be killed before his eyes. Furious, John fought back, shouting how he'd kill Donovan for what he'd done. Donovan thought it an empty threat with no meaning and released his brother back into Jamestown while following the Templars back to their home.
John spent the rest of the time searching for his brother, making his home in the wilderness along the way, until he found another Assassin bureau and made it his home. After months of searching, John almost gave up when news of a Donnelly among the Templar ranks sparked his interest.
Jonathan, enraged that his brother had dared abandon his Assassin heritage, sought out information about this Donnelly. Sure enough, it was his brother, Donovan. With hot fury in his blood, Jonathan trailed his brother for a few days until he got him alone. John drew his hood and approached Donovan, who seemed surprised to see his brother.
"You killed my Mentor," spat John, flexing his wrist and hearing the familiar sound of his blade sliding free. "Now, I'm going to return the favor."
"That's an empty threat," countered Don, waving a hand in the air. "You don't have the nerve to kill your own flesh and blood."
"I do," snapped John, his voice dropping into a growl that sounded like a hiss. "And I will!"
The second he spoke, John lunged forward, as fast as a cobra striking its prey. The blade slashed across Donovan's neck and blood welled at the wound. The man was still not dead and John made sure he was by plummeting his blade into the man's chest, where his heart rested. After his brother was dead, John fled the area and returned to the Bureau, where he remained for a while, having a hard time dealing with the fact that he'd killed his own brother. Now, he hunts the remaining Templars that had a play in the death of his family, one of those men being Lucifer Shay.
