Background/Biography:

Donovan Kent was a Dutch-American Colonist and Assassin whose family settled from the Netherlands to America 30 years before the American Revolution. The Kent family hid their identities when the Colonial Order Assassins was wiped out. During the War, the activities of Connor was recognized by many Assassins all over the colonies. Donovan was one of the many that revealed himself to him.

Donovan was born in Boston, Massachusetts in the early spring to a family of the Dutch Assassin Order. He lived with his mother, Ava, his older brother, Nicholas, and his grandfather Donovan Sr. By birth he was trained to become an Assassin. The records of the father, Donovan Jr., were never spoken of; only that he had abandoned the family before they voyaged to America. By the age fifteen, he was capable of free running, combat, and some stealth. He grew up having a knack for anything that could shoot. Donovan Sr. was a retired Master Assassin and arms dealer who taught his grandson how to fire flintlocks and muskets. He taught Donovan how to throw knives and tomahawks as well. Over the weekends, they would go hunting, allowing Kent to practice his marksmanship, which would eventually become his best talent. Through his training with firearms, he had begun the favor the musket with a bayonet as his weapon of choice. The majority of his Assassin training was from his mother and brother. Ava and Nicholas were highly proficient Assassins who trained him in sword fighting, hand-to-hand combat, and parkour.  Ava, though the strongest and most strict family member nurtured, her youngest son with much love and affection giving him high morale and positive outlook even on the most darkest of times. Nicholas was the role model Donovan looked up to. Though he often pulled pranks and beat him in fights, Nicholas was always there to stand by his brother’s side and protect him. They shared their laughs and enjoyed a series of bar fights. Donovan Sr. gave his grandson wisdom and knowledge, teaching him about the Creed and the war with the Templars. He shared his experience of being an Assassin, hoping that his grandson may live up to the expectations.

Originally, the Kent family meant to meet with the Colonial Assassins but however, the order was nearly wiped out because of Templar activity.  Without anyone to look to but themselves, they blended into society living normal lives as average colonists. They kept their identities as secret as possible to reduce attention and trained in very secret areas. When the war between the Colonies and Britain emerged, Donovan and Nicholas were drafted into the Colonial Army and both served for four years years. They adapted to military combat and were assigned to a guerrilla platoon. Donovan had been assigned as a the platoon's sniper. Into the fourth year of the war later a guerrilla attack that went wrong killed the majority of the soldiers of the platoon, including Nicholas. Donovan, devastated of the loss of his bother, deserted and travelled back to Boston. He kept a very low profile back home, hoping not to be recognized by any military personnel and rarely went outside the city limit.

Two years later, ten renegade soldiers claiming to be Colonial barged into the Kent’s home confiscating food, jewelry, silverware, and other valuables and consumables. All were to be used for the war effort, as they seemed to be nearing defeat (which was completely absurd because the Colonists were in fact winning the war). Ava demanded the soldiers to give the property back, but they ignored her and continued to load their wagon. She walked up to the wagon, pushed away the two Redcoats near the wagon and grabbed a porcelain vase and made her way to her house. Suddenly, a cutlass cut the vase in half as Ava jumped back, barely getting cut. One soldier attempted to grab Ava, but with her reflexes, she quickly kicked him in the stomach, immediately falling to the ground. The soldier with the cutlass attempted to strike again but is disarmed and impaled by his own weapon. Ava then ran up to the two soldiers next to the wagon, slamming their heads into the wagon. Donovan ran out of the house seeing his mother fighting and joined in with a tomahawk in his hand.  He glanced at a soldier pointing his musket at Ava and charged directly at him. He swung the tomahawk into the soldier’s skull, breaking it instantly. As the musket fell to the ground to the ground, Donovan picked it right back up and quickly fired it at one of the soldiers. He ran to his mother with the musket with his hand. The two regrouped and stood back-to-back. The three soldiers who were knocked to the ground got to their feet, regrouped with their own, and began to circle the Assassins. Surrounded by seven soldiers with swords and axes in their hands, Ava and Donovan clenched their scavenged weapons and charged at their attackers. Ava fought with four of the soldiers while her son dealt with the other three. Donovan immediately disarmed his first soldier and stabbed him. Unfortunately the bayonet on the musket popped off and stayed in the soldier’s chest. The second soldier attacked. Donovan blocked the sword and then hit him with the rifle butt. The third soldier, with a knife charged at Donovan. Donovan immediately retaliated by swinging the musket into his ribcage causing internal bleeding, but however, lost his grip on the musket and sent it flying into a haystack. The second soldier got back up and swung his sword at Donovan. The young Assassin dodged the attacks with ease. He picked up an empty glass bottle on the ground and smashed it across the soldier’s face. With the broken half of the bottle in his hand, Donovan sent a left hook and a kick before shoving its sharp glass bits into the soldier's throat. He turned to see his mother, gracefully dodging and blocking every attack with her cutlass. With a blink, three of the soldiers had fallen dead to the ground; leaving only one left. The last soldier got aggressive and without hesitating grabbed Ava’s cutlass by the blade and pulled her close to him, completely ignoring the fact his whole hand was slit open completely. Ava saw his arm with the cleaver raised in the air ready to kill. She released her weapon and tried to back up as fast as she could but was too late. Though she managed to prevent her head from being cleaved, her right hand was too stretched out, giving the soldier the opportunity to cut it off. Ava fell to the ground in agony as the soldier approached her and was about the make his kill. Donovan was too far and wouldn’t be able to reach her in time. Yet, he tried and ran towards the soldier. As the soldier raised his cleaver for the last time, a musket ball penetrated his hand and forced him to drop the weapon, and screamed in pain. He turned around and saw Donovan Sr. charging at him. The old man clubbed the soldier with his pistol and then stabbed him with a hidden blade, killing him. Donovan ran to his mother and the two hugged tightly with the bloodied arm dripping down his shoulders. Donovan Sr. sighed, took a pause, and then walked over to the wagon, and began unloading it back into the Kent’s home.

Five months later, Donovan stood outside his house envisioning the fight that occurred nearly a year ago. Then, from inside the house, Ava called Donovan with an impatient manner. He walked inside to meet his mother sitting on a chair rewrapping her injured arm. She told her son about the death of Benjamin Church, who turned out to be a Templar. It had been discovered by Donovan Sr. that an Assassin had killed the general. Turns out he had tracked the killer to a large homestead owned by the Mentor Achilles Davenport, the Kent family’s original contact many years ago! They were supposed to meet him in Boston but couldn’t due to the Colonial Order being eliminated. No doubt it was an Assassin that killed Church. Ava told Donovan that she could no longer teach him due to her arm and that she planned to retire from the Assassin Order just like Donovan Sr. did. She told him it would be best to go to the homestead and learn from any Assassin living there. The Kent family could finally come out of hiding and join the Colonial Brotherhood, reuniting with their brothers and sisters of the Order. Donovan took a horse and rode to the homestead.

Donovan entered the grounds of the homestead and saw as large white manor in front of him. He got off his horse and walked towards the door of the manor. When her reached the door, he eagerly but carefully knocked. The Assassin waited as he took small steps pacing left and right. Suddenly, the door opened, but slowly. Donovan faced the opened door to see a Native American man looking at him with a rather serious but confused look. The man wore Assassin’s Robes and had a Mohawk; he then saw the Assassin insignia on Donovan’s cravat and his eyes widened. Donovan introduced himself to the Assassin, Connor, and the Mentor, Achilles. He was inducted into the Colonial Order the very next day.

Donovan was assigned to New York City and now roams the city as a rooftop sentry. With his musket in his hand, he stands on a roof awaiting his next order...
