Name: Elizabeth "The Demon" Shay
Age: 20
Affiliation: Assassin and pirate
Appearance:
A tall, slender, and defined woman. Her naturally rosy lips stand out against her pitch black hair and fair skin. Her light blue eyes have been described as hypnotic, she has used this to her advantage more than a few times. She wears a black hooded robe and a red suede belt that occupies most of her torso starting just below her breasts and ending at the hip. She incorporated the templar cross into the assassin emblem that she had embroided in the middle of her belt. She has a large tattoo of a dragon on her back, it almost covers the entire length of her back, and far too many scars cover her back.

Personality:Elizabeth is a strong willed woman, she does what she feels is right and she won't stop until she feels that she is finished. She is filled with hatred and an unfathomable darkness, yet nobody knows why. She has often been called: violent, unpredictable, ruthless, sadistic, but she is also kind, caring, and funny. She is generally a loner but she does have a small group of friends. While she is extremely violent towards others, she cares deeply for her friends and she will do almost anything to protect them.
Favorite Weapons: - Flintlocks
- Rope darts
- Boarding axe
Strengths: - Highly intelligent. She has a vast understanding of plants and their healing powers as well as the poison contained in a few plants that she grows, the only redeeming quality the assassins found in her. Being a woman that wouldn't turn away from a good fight, her knowledge of healing plants has saved her skin more times than she would care to admit. She knows more about weapons and warfare than any woman should.
- As strong as an ox, she is able to carry two men about twice her size.
- Incredibly fast, and she was thankful for it. There were many times when the assassins had chased her through the jungles of Tulum because of some idiotic thing she had done.
Weaknesses: - She has a fiery temper, anything can set her off so people tend to avoid her.
- She is mentally unstable.
- She is an insomniac. Elizabeth never saw her insomnia as a weakness when she was young, she thought it helped her survive. She eventually realized that insomnia was, indeed, a curse. She had failed two missions because of her lack of sleep which resulted in her having hallucinations, and the target escaping.
Background/Biography:Elizabeth Shay was born in Nassau. Her father was a templar and her mother, an assassin. Elizabeth's mother had gone to Nassau on a mission, to kill a templar slave trader, only things weren't what they seemed and the two soon realized they had similar goals yet different methods. Shay left the templar order and tried to make a living as a privateer. Shay would often take Elizabeth with him on voyages where he taught her the basics of sailing and all the workings of the ship. When Elizabeth was only seven years of age, she witnessed the death of her family by the hands of governor Torres leaving her with nothing but painful memories and her father's templar ring. Torres didn't like seeing his best man run off with one of his sworn enemies not to mention that Shay had been freeing the slaves he had been transporting during his time as a templar. Having nowhere to go, Elizabeth turned to the streets, where she made a living by pickpocketing and survived on the scraps that the local baker put out for her. She vowed that she would have her revenge, even if it killed her.
At the age of fifteen, Elizabeth managed to steal her first brig which she called the Tiger Shark, it helped that most of the original crew was out cold from a night of drinking. Elizabeth gathered a few men to serve on the Tiger Shark and set off for Tulum, a place her mother told her to go should she ever die. The crew was a ragtag bunch of sailors and pirates looking for work after Queen Anne's war, nothing matters more to a pirate than alcohol, and Elizabeth promised them a great deal of it. The crew knew her father well, so they looked after Elizabeth and respected her as their captain. Although, most of them joined her crew out of sheer terror, apparently Elizabeth once keelhauled a man just for laughs.
When she arrived at Tulum, Ah Tabai took her under his wing and taught her everything he knew. She favored training with the rope darts and boarding axe as she wanted to send a message to all who had crossed her. The assassins didn't trust her, to them, she was just another threat. She was often flogged for disobedience and recklessness. After four years, Elizabeth had completed her training, she was offered a mentor role but she declined. Much to the dismay of the others, Ah Tabai gave Elizabeth the title of "Master Assassin". She was going to get her revenge, so she took to the seas and headed back to Nassau, taking her only friend, Mary Read, with her.
Upon arrival at Nassau, Elizabeth had an argument with some British officers. They claimed that a woman had no place on the ocean and they ordered her to surrender her brig to them. Elizabeth had a different idea, "How about you surrender your ship? Even better, why don't you surrender your souls" Elizabeth shouted as she slaughtered the officers. She was reported to be laughing the entire time. Benjamin Hornigold, Jack Rackham, Edward Thatch, and Charles Vane happened to witness the event, and took her to the local tavern for a drink. Elizabeth befriended the pirates and they loved her, apparently, she had all the makings of a great pirate. It was not long after their initial meeting that Benjamin Hornigold and Elizabeth Shay became romantically involved.
When Elizabeth was not at sea, completing contracts, mucking about with the rest of the pirates, or spending time with Hornigold, she would often be seen with Rackham at the local tavern where she would attempt to drink away the memories that tormented her. She could stand her ground in a fight and she could handle her liquor better than anyone.
Even though it had been thirteen years since the incident, she still had nightmares. She had long since forgotten how to sleep. With her bloodlust, she has earned the nickname: "The Demon".
When Edward Kenway attacked Benjamin Hornigold in 1719, Kenway thought he had killed Hornigold, but in truth, he had merely left Hornigold at death’s door. Elizabeth waited until Kenway had left before she tended to the dying and unconscious man. It was only with her healing knowledge that she was able to save him. They were engaged a few months later but they were never officially married under British law.
