Name: Hakim Nejem
Age: Dependent on Memory Accessed [Born 1161]
Affiliation: Assassin [1161-1191]/Templar [1192-?]
Appearance: A native to Masyaf, Hakim is tanned and sports a head of medium-length black hair as well as a trimmed goatee (or as close as one can get during the Third Crusade). A lifetime of training and service to the Levantine Brotherhood has put him in pique physical condition. Most often seen in traditional assassin garb.
Personality: Generally a no-nonsense person, Hakim displays a cool and collected visage. This persona is far more present when he is engaged in combat but tends to falter when his actions and ideals are challenged.
Favourite Weapons: Two-sided ax and the hidden blade. He is also sufficient in combat with swords and daggers.
Strengths:
• Team Player: He excels in planning and executing coordinated operations with other agents and is able to pull the slack should an element of the plan not fall through.
• Axed: Hakim significantly favours his double-bladed ax and has become proficient with the distinctly European weapon, something that has been known to throw his enemies off in combat.
• Network of Contacts: In serving Al Mualim, Hakim comes to develop connections to both Assassin and Templar agents, giving him access to intelligence and equipment from both sides.
Weaknesses:
• Bullheaded: Hakim has a strong view in the beliefs that have been instilled in him: he’s quick to defend and slow to change them.
• Light Armour: While the tradition garb of the Levantine Assassin provides greater mobility for running and climbing, it inevitably provides less protection and is vulnerable to heavy and ranged weapons.
• The Enemy of My Friend is My Friend: His dual allegiance to the Assassin’s and the ideologies of Al Mualim may at points bring him into conflict with those whom he has considered his allies in the past, which may cause Hakim to hesitate for a moment or leave loose ends.
Background/Biography:
Hakim Nejem was born into the Levantine Brotherhood of the Assassin Order in 1161, beginning his lifelong service to the Creed and, some might say more importantly in this case, their leader Al Mualim.
During the years of training with the Brotherhood in Masyaf Hakim differed from his peers in that while he was entirely capable of taking on tasks by himself, it was team exercises and operations where he thrived. Over time this became a specialty of his and he grew to coordinate assassinations and large operations, often bringing him into contact with the various Assassin branches throughout the Holy Land. Hakim notably worked with Altaïr Ibn-La’Ahad, who would eventually lead the Order following the death of Al-Mualim, on several missions.
Through his training years and full service to the assassins Hakim was incredibly close to the leader of the order, Al Mualim. He would eventually come under his direct tutelage, learning subjects such as philosophy and history. Hakim grew sympathetic of his worldviews and supported him in his quest for the Apple of Eden and for a world at peace.
After the death of Al Mualim in 1191 Hakim became increasingly disillusioned with the Brotherhood and left, taking some of the writings and possessions of his former mentor with him. Despite being at odds with the Templar Order previously, the assassination of Robert de Sable and several of its members who were seen as being corrupted, he found that the teachings of Al Mualim aligned quite well with that of the Templars outside of the Holy Land.
Note: Prior to 1191 and the death of Al Mualim Hakim was involved in numerous missions in the Holy Land as well as being increasingly active in the Templar Order following this. The details of these events are currently unknown, Abstergo hopes to bring these events to light by accessing the memories of both Hakim Nejem and various other persons whom he may have encountered throughout his life.
